Adaptions to your Home

Your OT (Occupational Therapist) will make an assessment of you, your child, your whole family, and what adaptations are required to enable your child to remain safe and to help you to carry out their care without any further complications. They can assess for ramps, hoists, beds, highchairs, lifts, stair lifts, bathing, dressing, etc. See the list of equipment available in the appropriate sections of this book.

What Will Be Assessed?

An occupational therapist (OT) will carry out a full assessment of:

    • You

    • Your child

    • Your whole family

    • Your home environment

This is to determine what adaptations are required to:

    • Keep your child safe

    • Support you in delivering their care

    • Prevent further complications in daily routines


What Can Be Assessed?

The OT may assess for:

    • Ramps

    • Hoists

    • Beds

    • Highchairs

    • Lifts

    • Stair lifts

    • Bathing equipment

    • Dressing supports
